Biodiesel and WVO Cold Test

After a biodiesel cold test was performed last night, it was determined that it is still safe to use a fuel blend of up to B50.  If you aren't certain that you will use all the fuel in your tank before temperatures drop, we recommend a blend of B20. 

The waste vegetable oil cold test results lead us to recommend using a blend of up to 20% WVO (we'll call it V20) in single-tank systems.  Last night's low temperature was about 18 degrees F. 

Winter Blending Guidelines

As winter is approaching, many of you might be wondering when to start blending biodiesel with diesel fuel.  Here are some general guidelines to follow.

When night-time temperatures are:

in the 40's: mix with 20% diesel (B80)
in the high to mid teens: mix with 50% diesel (B50)
in the low teens: mix with 80% diesel (B20)
below zero: use 100% diesel (B0)

For the next three months, we will be selling filtered, dewatered, Waste Veggie Oil for $2.80 for members and $3.15 for non-members per gallon. We have secured a fixed price for the next three months. This price incorporates free delivery from CRBF, which may or may not continue beyond the three month introductory period. If delivery charges are added, they are estimated to be in the 30-50 cent/gallon range.

Remember, you need an Elsbett or another VO system in order to run waste veggie oil. Haven't had a VO kit installed yet? Make an appointment with the shop today!

To buy veggie oil from PFBF, we ask that you sign a liability. Great care will be taken to ensure the quality of the waste veggie oil we sell. However, there are no standards for this fuel at this time, and it is waste vegetable oil, not virgin vegetable oil.
